Custom Tile & Stone

Tile is where a remodel is won or lost. A shower that drains correctly and a backsplash whose pattern actually lands on the corner are the difference between a room that looks finished and one that looks close. This is the work we care most about.

  • Custom tile showers, start to finish
  • Niches, benches, curbs & curbless entries
  • Kitchen backsplashes & feature walls
  • Porcelain, ceramic, terracotta & natural stone
  • Herringbone, checkerboard & large-format layouts
  • Waterproofing systems installed to spec

Custom tile showers, built waterproof

A tile shower is a waterproofing project with tile on top. We install proper bonded membrane systems — Schluter Kerdi or a liquid membrane like RedGard depending on the build — wrapped continuously through every inside corner, up the curb, and into the niche. That layer is what keeps water out of your framing, and it is invisible the moment the tile goes on, which is exactly why it is the easiest place for a cheaper bid to cut.

We handle the whole assembly: pre-slope and pan, niches laid out against your tile pattern, benches framed as part of the structure, curbs or a curbless entry, and Schluter edge profiles matched to your fixture finish. Every shower gets flood-tested before tile.

Backsplashes, feature walls & fireplaces

A kitchen backsplash is a small area where every cut is visible, so layout matters more than square footage. We plan the pattern around your range, outlets, and cabinet runs so full tiles land where the eye goes and cuts hide at the edges.

The same care goes into feature walls — a fireplace surround, a vanity wall, a headboard wall in elongated 2x6 picket or stacked subway. These are small jobs that change a whole room.

Layout: herringbone, checkerboard & large format

Pattern is a design decision with real installation consequences. Herringbone doubles the cuts and demands a dead-square starting line. Checkerboard is unforgiving of any drift — one degree off at the wall shows across the floor. Large-format porcelain needs a flat substrate and back-buttering to avoid lippage and hollow spots.

We dry-lay the field, set the control lines against the room rather than the wall you happen to start from, and level the substrate first. That prep is why the finished floor reads straight.

Terracotta, zellige & specialty tile

Handmade tile behaves differently from machine-made porcelain. Terracotta is porous and wants sealing before and after grout. Zellige and other handmade glazed tile arrive with deliberate variation in size, thickness, and color — the irregularity is the point, and it needs a wider grout joint and a hand that works with the variation rather than fighting it.

If you want the character of a handmade tile, tell us early. It changes the layout approach, the grout choice, and the amount of overage to order.

Patios, entries & outdoor tile

Outdoor tile in Houston has to handle heat, driving rain, and a wet surface people walk on barefoot. We install exterior-rated porcelain — including 20mm pavers that can be set on a patio without a mortar bed — chosen for slip resistance rather than looks alone, over a substrate that drains.

Frequently asked questions

Do you build custom tile showers?

Yes — it is the work we do most. We design and build custom tile showers with proper bonded waterproofing, niches, benches, and curbless options, and we flood-test every pan before the tile goes on so a leak shows up on our schedule instead of yours.

Can you build a curbless walk-in shower?

Yes. A curbless or zero-entry shower means dropping the subfloor, usually running a linear drain, and carrying the waterproofing well past the shower opening. It costs more and takes longer than a standard curb, and most Houston homes are slab-on-grade which affects the approach — we will tell you honestly what your house allows before you commit.

What tile is best for Houston bathrooms?

Porcelain is the most popular choice because it is dense, water-resistant, and low maintenance. Natural stone and terracotta are beautiful but porous and need periodic sealing. We will walk you through the trade-offs against how the room actually gets used.

Do you install handmade tile like zellige or terracotta?

We do. Handmade tile comes with real variation in size, thickness, and color, so it needs a wider grout joint, more overage ordered, and an installer who works with the variation instead of trying to hide it. Mention it early — it changes the layout plan.

How long does a custom tile shower take?

Most custom showers run one to two weeks depending on size, pattern, and how much demo is involved. Waterproofing and mortar both need cure time that cannot be rushed, and the flood test adds a day. We give you a day-by-day schedule with your estimate.

Can I see the tile you install before I decide?

Yes. Browse our selections page for the lines we carry, then come to our design center to see full-size samples in person. Color on a screen is never the color in your bathroom light.
